Sally Bearne

Accredited

Sally is an accredited Psychodynamic Counsellor with experience in working  with a wide variety of clients and psychological difficulties including low mood and depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, self- harm, eating disorders, bereavement, relationship difficulties and substance misuse.

Sally’s counselling experience includes working for Sussex University Counselling Service and Threshold Women’s Services. She has also worked as a schools’ counsellor and in a therapeutic setting supporting adults with a diagnosis of Emotional Intensity Disorder. Before training as a counsellor she spent four years as a volunteer with Survivors’ Network, offering emotional support to women survivors of adult and childhood sexual abuse.

Sally was originally drawn to relational work by her curiosity about people: the origins of our self worth; why we make the choices we make and what gives us a sense of identity. She has a background  in early years’ education where she worked for a number of years as a special needs and general teaching assistant at a local nursery school .

Sally’s  therapeutic approach is informed by her understanding of the way our early relationships can impact  on our emotional development and our capacity to negotiate challenges in later life . She sees the counselling relationship as offering an opportunity to explore how past experiences might be contributing to a sense of dissatisfaction or distress in the present .  By enabling us to make greater sense of our thoughts and feelings counselling can help us to develop the capacity to make positive change.

Sally  is committed to the Therapy Clinic ethos of offering affordable, flexible counselling to all sectors of the community
