Katy Swoboda

Qualified

Katy is a UKCP registered psychotherapist and BACP registered psychotherapeutic counsellor. Katy initially trained in relational Gestalt psychotherapy at Metanoia Institute and has further training in Person-Centred Counselling for Depression and Developmental Somatic Psychotherapy.

Katy works collaboratively with clients, providing a safe, non-judgemental and accepting atmosphere in which clients can explore their experience. She aims to support clients to develop curiosity regarding what already is present in the here-and-now as the first step towards developing kindness and compassion towards themselves, and integrating the experiences or aspects of self which can be forgotten, banished or seen as unacceptable. When integrated, these experiences can support us in leading a more fulfilling life. Katy supports clients to be interested in their holistic experience, both verbal and non-verbal, including gestures, movement and creative expression.

Katy often draws on aspects of Gestalt psychotherapy, psychodynamic theory, parts-of-self theory, paradoxical theory of change, and creative ways of developing self-compassion. She

adapts her approach to meet the particular needs of individual clients , believing that clients are experts in their own experience and she is there to sit alongside a client in an authentic way.

Katy has experience of working with the NHS, charity and private sector, and a diverse range of issues. Her current interests are relationship issues, anxiety and depression, low self-esteem, loneliness, developmental trauma, grief and post-traumatic growth.
