Matthew is a qualified psychodynamic therapist with BACP accreditation pending. He completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy at the University of Brighton
Before training as a therapist, Matthew worked in the creative and educational sectors -experience that continues to shape his reflective, relational approach. He is interested in how people express themselves, relate to others, and make sense of their inner lives.
Matthew offers a warm, thoughtful space where clients can explore difficult feelings, relationship patterns, and the impact of early experience. He sees therapy as a collaborative process of deepening self-understanding and opening up the possibility for change – especially when the therapeutic relationship feels steady, respectful, and engaged.
Grounded in psychodynamic thinking, Matthew listens closely not just to what is said, but also tries to connect with what may be going on underneath. He supports clients in making sense of themselves and the way in which past experiences and relationships might unconsciously shape how they feel, and relate in the present.
Claire is an individual and couple psychodynamic psychotherapist. She is a registered member of BACP and is a member of Tavistock Relationships Association of Psychotherapists and Counsellors, where she trained and works as a visiting clinician.
Claire has experience of providing therapy to couples and individuals from many different contexts and life stages. Psychodynamic therapy can help you to develop a deeper understanding of yourself and your relationships, working together to try to make sense of your experiences and understand how current feelings and behaviour are shaped by your internal worlds. Claire provides a secure and confidential space to support and challenge you, helping you to think more deeply about what emerging unconscious patterns might mean. If you feel stuck and unable to find a way forward, psychodynamic couple therapy can help you develop and find new ways of relating and living your life.
Julia has been involved in psychotherapy and mental health for 25 years practicing as a psychotherapist, trainer and supervisor in Brighton, Hove and Lewes. Julia works with individuals, couples and groups and initially trained in gestalt therapy at The Gestalt Centre, London whereby she obtained an MA in psychotherapy. Gestalt therapy is a holistic and integrative therapy with roots in psychoanalysis.
Specifically with couples, Julia works to build understanding of the relationship pattern, supporting the couple to explore their relationship in the present situation of the consulting room and through structured conversations with the therapist. The gestalt method facilitates awareness of how couples interact and gives space for each person to explore their experience in this interaction. This may develop a formulation which can be used by the couple to increase understanding and to create conditions for change.
Julia has a background in the arts, as well as experience in mental health services and for many years worked in and managed a Mind/NHS therapy service. She has experience of working with people from a very diverse background and is committed to the ethos embedded in the Therapy clinic, offering accessible and responsive therapy to the community. She is registered with the UKCP and works in line with their Code of Ethics.
